HOMAGE contains 20 of Scott’s favorite jazz standards. The project began with one song - What's New - recorded during the pandemic while trying to learn how to be a sound engineer. But it wasn't until Scott finally retired from his corporate and university teaching gigs in 2023 that the learning curve really took off. The trombone tracks were recorded in Scott’s home studio over bebop backing tracks by Jamey Aebersold. You can view the sessions on YouTube - see VIDEOS tab for links. However, those accompaniments could not be published on Apple Music and Spotify, etc., due to licensing limitations, so Scott then created original rhythm section recordings for each song at roughly the same tempos, but leaning more toward the jazz fusion styles he grew up with. It’s not exactly smooth jazz - definitely too much trombone for that - but more like bebop fusion…

Of course HOMAGE has double meaning, as it was literally recorded at home, but beyond that, Scott would like to very sincerely dedicate this album, in true homage, to all of the jazz greats who came before, who have influenced him and his generation so deeply.  …Enjoy!

FACING EAST, by The Scott Kyle Quintet, was recorded to document Scott’s masters recital at SDSU, focusing on more modern jazz, including a few of his own compositions.

FULL CIRCLE, by The Scott Kyle Quintet, was Scott’s “comeback album”, released to critical acclaim in 2005 soon after he moved back to civilization (San Diego) from the desert paradise of Page, Arizona. Recorded with a group of cohorts from SDSU's jazz studies department, including Christopher Hollyday on alto sax, Full Circle was submitted for Grammy consideration and received extensive airplay on jazz stations in the US and around the world.
