Originally from Seal Beach, California, Scott began playing trombone professionally in 1977. In those days people still smoked in bars, and synthesizers were starting to displace studio musicians. Choosing a different lifestyle, Scott earned a BA in Economics from UCLA in 1981, got married in 1982, and moved to Page, Arizona in 1984 to work as a CPA on the Navajo Reservation. Scott and his family enjoyed the small town lifestyle at Lake Powell near the head of the Grand Canyon until 2003, spending as much time as possible mountain biking, wakeboarding, skiing, and hiking in the canyons. Then, with the kids starting to leave for college, Scott and his wife Pam relocated back to Southern California, where he got an MA in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University and began teaching jazz improv. Now retired from both his teaching and his finance careers, living in beautiful Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California, Scott is traveling, riding, surfing, writing, recording, and playing his horn as much as he can.
